Yeah, those emails were hardly damning. And while suggestive, they weren't exactly hard evidence. Still, you'd think they might have maybe asked around with the other pages. Seems like that might have been a prudent thing to do. Might also have been wise to hold a page committee meeting, so there'd be no hint of coverup in the worst case. Frankly, it just didn't look good. And the media has a big tasty bone to chew on now.
